If you are considering to upgrade your existing television to a new flat screen then there are several options for you to take in to consideration. You will have to make the choice between a Plasma TV, a LED TV or an LCD screen. All three of the screen technologies come with certain strengths and so you will have to select the one which fulfills your viewing needs.
There are two resolutions of high definition TV being sold now. 1080p is the top level of resolution and 720p is the lowest. As you research the individual televisions you must check which resolution level they can play. A model supporting 720p should be labeled as HD Ready and one supporting 1080p as HD Ready 1080p.
A 1080p set has a pixel size of 1920 x 1080 and the lesser 720p size has 1366 x 768. The difference between the two is that the 1080p set is the one which supports what is known as Full HD. This is the highest resolution and is used by Blu-ray, games consoles and some content such as movie trailers you may download from the web. TV programmes in HD are broadcast in the lower resolution of 720p. So if you intend to mainly watch TV shows in HD then a 720p set will be fine. Choosing a 1080p screen is most suited for gamers or people who watch Blu-ray with a 1080p player.
Obviously it will also depend on your budget as a higher resolution set will cost you more. Viewing distances and screen size are also relevant when making your final selection. For instance a higher resolution television will not be so effective if you sit too far away. You will still get a higher quality of picture which a more pricey model though due to other included features.
It is very common for people to end up with a Flat Screen TV 32 inch because that screen dimension is one of the most widely purchased. Plasma TV’s are not made in the 32 inch screen size and the LCD screens offer good value as an LED will be the most costly type. Plasma screens of 37 inches are the smallest available at the moment.
Depending on how much you have to spend then the 32 inch LCD is the most economical. However, if you want a bigger viewing platform then a Plasma screen of 50 inches can be purchased for under £700!
